| The Child Care Injury Prevention Program offers a comprehensive program that provides child care providers with education, materials and resources needed to decrease the unintentional injury and death rate in children ages 14 and under.
The Child Care Injury Prevention Program is currently funded by the Catholic Healthcare West, BHHS Legacy Foundation and SafeKids of Maricopa County.
Program History
Preventable injuries take an enormous financial, emotional and social toll not just on the injured children and families, but also on society as a whole. Unintentional injury is the leading cause of death among children ages 14 and under in the United States, claiming more than 5,600 child lives annually. More than 16 percent of unintentional injuries among children result in permanent disability. National Safekids Campaign/Trends in Unintentional Childhood Injury Mortality, May 2003. In response, ASCC developed the “Child Care Injury Prevention Program” in January of 2005. The implementation of the Child Care Injury Prevention Program’s comprehensive educational format, enables ASCC to continue its efforts on a larger scale, make important additions and provide educational trainings to child care providers. The Child Care Injury Prevention Program contributes to the safety of children and education of child care providers. Safety items needed to ensure children’s safety are provided. The program supports national efforts to decrease the incidence of fatal unintentional injury and presents targeted messages to child care providers about the consequences of failing to take essential preventative actions. Program Objectives
Child Care Injury Prevention Program staff offer child care providers the following:
- Child Passenger Safety trainings, distribution and installation of child safety seats.
- CPR and First Aid trainings and distribution of first aid kits.
- Crib Safety trainings and distribution of safe cribs to identified child care providers.
- Home Safety trainings and distribution of fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and outlet covers.
Eligibility
