Phone Friend
is a free, bilingual “warm line” that children
ages 5-18 may call to get homework help, play a game or hear
a story, or just talk to someone during after school
hours. Phone Friend helps children build self-confidence and
problem-solving skills and encourages activities that promote
self-sufficiency within parents’ boundaries.
Phone Friend is funded by Valley of the Sun United Way, Arizona Republic Charities, Albertson’s Community Partners, Glendale From the Heart, Governor’s Office for Children, Youth and Families, City of Chandler, Cox Charities, The East Valley Tribune and Clothes Helping Kids.

Home Alone Safety and Internet Safety Trainings
This preventative safety component to the program is offered
in Maricopa County schools at no cost. The classroom safety
trainings help K-6th grade students practice how to keep themselves
safe in potentially dangerous situations. Children learn safety
tips, participate in a problem-solving game and practice staying
safe through active role-plays of various safety scenarios.
All participants receive Phone Friend materials with the Phone
Friend “warm line” number. If you are interested
in having a Home Alone Safety or Internet Safety presentation
at your school or facility, please contact us today.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.
Phone Friend Volunteer Opportunities
Phone Friend volunteers are an important part of the success
of Phone Friend. Volunteers answer calls from one of nine phone
lines, Monday-Friday between the hours of
1:00 PM-6:30 PM at the call center in Tempe. Phone Friend provides
a free orientation and an eight–ten hour training for
all volunteers. After the completion of the training, Phone
Friend requires that volunteers dedicate a minimum of twenty
hours to the program.
